What Creates an Accent from the Middle East?
One of the biggest differences when comparing American English to accents from Middle Eastern speakers is the speech melody known as intonation and word stress. The rise and fall of the melody and pitch patterns in sentences are quite different. Often the spoken English is more monotone or, conversely, more sing-songy depending on where the speaker is from in the Middle Eastern region.
In terms of sounds, often the American voiceless /th/ is pronounced with a /t/ or /s/ sound. For voiced /th/ there is often a /d/ or /z/ substitution. Sometimes the /h/ is pronounced too strongly or dropped and other sounds are too forceful or omitted. The /r/ sound might be trilled or rolled or pronounced different from the American model. These are unique differences from the two languages and can absolutely be neutralized.
