What Are Some Speech Differences When Speaking With a Spanish or Portuguese Accent Compared to American English?
In general, many Spanish and Portuguese accented speakers tend to speak English in a flat, monotone pattern that is too fast and does not have many pitch changes or vocal variety. Is that the speaker will place an “eh” sound before words that have an /s/ blend as in “eh-special.” Other differences are a /t/ and /d/ substitutions for the sound /th/. The /r/ may be trilled or rolled or mispronounced from the American style.
